Loudoun Inferno Elite had an awesome weekend on the softball field going 5 and 1 on the weekend and winning the Madison Small Memorial 18U Open Division.

On Sunday the girls beat the Stingrays 18U team 4 to 0 behind a strong pitching performance from Abby Coffman. Abby struck out 7 and only gave up two hits over 6 innings. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 5th when Bryn Varanelli reached on an error scoring Taylor McKinney. Katie Novak led the offense going 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored.

In their 2nd game on Sunday Inferno Elite avenged two earlier losses to a very good Mount Vernon Magic Elite team. Kaylee Sullivan got the win on the mound striking out 4 and walking 0 over 5 innings. Inferno was down 5 to 2 heading into the 4th inning. A single by Wynn Drenning drove in Bryn Varanelli who had singled to start the inning. Unfortunately, the tying run was thrown out at the plate on a nice play by the Magic center fielder. Not to worry, in the 5th inning Olivia Bruns led the inning off with a double and scored on a single by Katie Ryan. Kaylee Sullivan then hit a sacrifice fly driving in Katie Ryan to give Inferno a 6 to 5 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth. Sullivan shut down the Magic 1, 2, 3 behind an unbelievable diving catch by Addie Grinnell in left field and the final out on a running catch by second baseman Erica Barrett in shallow right field. Katie Novak hit a home run in the first inning driving in Bryn Varanelli who had also singled to lead off the game.

In the championship game Inferno Elite beat the Shooting Stars 18U National team 2 to 1 behind a fantastic pitching performance by Hannah Bassett. Bassett gave up 5 hits and struck out 3 over 7 innings. Mairin Cooke started the game with a double off the fence. Then in the top of the second inning Addie Grinnell topped her catch in the previous game with another outstanding catch in left saving extra bases. Then in the bottom of second inning Olivia Bruns doubled again and Katie Ryan singled on a ball up the middle driving in Bruns. Kaylee Sullivan then singled in Ryan giving Inferno all the runs they needed. Congrats Loudoun Inferno Elite! What a weekend!!
