Congratulations, 14U Fishburn – USSA Playing Funds the Cure 14U-Open Champions!
It was an awesome weekend for Loudoun Inferno 14U – Fishburn as the team went 6 and 1 culminating in a championship. The girls started Sunday morning with an 8am game and remained on the field until almost 7pm. The semi-final game against East Coast Xplosion was one that will be remembered for a long time. The girls took at 1 to 0 lead thanks to a two out double off the top of the fence from Avery Sullivan in the top of the 1st inning. After the East Coast Xplosion tied the game at 1 in the bottom of the 4th, Inferno took the lead again in the top of the 5th thanks to RBI singles from Maya Thaivalappil and Keira O’Malley. That score stood until the Xplosion scored two runs in the bottom of the 6th inning (after time had expired) on a two run triple with two outs. Then with the game on the line 2B Alexa Knapp (10 put outs in the game) made a spectacular diving catch on a line drive to send the game to ITB. From there the girls erupted for 4 runs in the 7th (ITB) thanks in large part to a huge pinch-hit single from Rylee Schmid to start the inning. Ada Rizley was awesome in the circle only allowing 5 hits in 7 innings.
In the championship game Inferno won 2-0 thanks to an awesome pitching performance from Karissa Bowes and RBI singles from O’Malley and Ainsley Phillips. There were some pretty awesome defensive plays in that game as well including a spectacular play deep in the hole by SS Cara Welton.
As a team that hit over .400 on the weekend and had a .953 fielding percentage.
Come see the girls the next time they are on the field. There growth is off the charts…they are fun to watch!
